Barbados Playgroup - over 20 years of history
Barbados House Playgroup
Barbados House Playgroup was situated in "Barbados House" (now known as the "Phoenix Art Centre") and first opened its doors in February 1989, initially to cater for the rapidly growing new estate of "Pinewood Village". It was run by a charity committee. At this time Karen, the now manager, was the committee treasurer and a ‘mother helper’ and in 1990 she became, with Pat, a member of staff.
Barbados Playgroup
In the early 1990’s we moved to our present premises of the then new "Pinewood Village Hall" and to avoid confusion we dropped "house" from our name to become Barbados Playgroup.
In 2003 and 2004 Barbados Playgroup was awarded as an Investor in People.
Barbados Playgroup Ltd
In 2006 the Playgroup’s charity management committee changed the running of the playgroup to a Limited Company by Guarantee, not for profit, organisation – Barbados Playgroup Ltd.
In 2007 Barbados Playgroup Ltd was awarded as an Investor in People. Over the last 10 years Barbados Playgroup has become a well respected playgroup not only locally but across Hampshire.
In 2009, Barbados Playgroup was one of the first playgroups in Hampshire to have more than 1 member of staff, it has 3, recognised as Leading Foundation Stage Practitioners (LFSP), a Hampshire initiative that recognises the ‘good practice’ carried out by Early Years practitioners in Hampshire.
